Baker Hughes Simplifies Field Inspections with New Waygate Technologies Flexible Digital X-ray Detector: DXR Flex

  • First generation bendable digital detector is set to replace traditional X-ray film in field radiography inspections
  • DXR Flex detector simplifies field inspections in oil & gas, power generation, chemicals, pulp & paper and aerospace industries
  • Integrated digital imaging and wireless capabilities speed up inspections and boost field operations productivity

HUERTH, Germany, Oct. 16, 2024 – Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business and market leader in nondestructive testing (NDT) solutions for industrial and energy infrastructure inspection, has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of DXR Flex, a bendable digital X-ray detector. Designed to withstand the harshest of conditions, it is engineered to replace traditional X-ray film and streamline field inspections in a broad range of industries, from oil & gas and power generation to chemicals, pulp & paper, aviation and space exploration.

More efficiency and highest image quality

The introduction of the bendable digital detector technology represents a significant evolution for field radiography inspections. Designed for the application on round objects down to 150mm (6”) in diameter, the DXR Flex closely encircles pipe welds, previously only possible with X-ray film or CR phosphor imaging plates. It thereby covers a larger part of the weld area that needs to be inspected than rigid flat panel detectors, allowing the overall inspection to be concluded with up to 65%* fewer exposures. This in turn drastically reduces set up and inspection time, and ultimately overall asset downtime.

With its dual-sided exposure capability, the DXR Flex is also suitable for the double-wall double-image (DW-DI) elliptical radiographic technique for small pipes. Combined with the Waygate Technologies Rhythm Insight software platform and Waygate Technologies’ proprietary Flash! image enhancement software, the DXR Flex detector delivers unmatched image quality in weld inspections at the click of a button. The high-resolution DXR Flex (99 µm pixel pitch) is battery powered and can be used wired or wireless, allowing operators to send images directly to their laptops for faster results and reporting.

Rugged meets practical

Designed with user convenience and efficiency in mind, the DXR Flex detector offers users comfortable handling and quick set-up including magnets to allow for easy application, even in confined and difficult to reach areas.

Rugged and easy to use for precise and efficient inspections of pipes with a diameter down to 150mm (6”)

Ingress protection IP67 ensures that the detector is waterproof and shielded from dust. Its strong case furthermore protects it from radiation and any damage due to knocks or drops, effectively extending the detector’s operational life.
